     Renulph De Methley The earliest known ancestor of Renulph was one of two brothers Ivo and Randulph who lived in the village of Methley, near Leeds, Yorkshire. About 1300 AD one of the descendants took the name "de Methley" which in cour
se of time has altered to Metley, Meddley, Meadley, Medly and stabilised as Medley in the 1500's.

     Lord William De Methley married Elena Unknown. He was born circa 1250. He William, born about 1250, was either the son of Alan, or an unknown son of Ivo's. If the former, Ivo must have been childless, and so left his lands to his nephew William. He was Lord of the manor of Methley, probably in succession to the Thornhills. By this time the de Methley's were Tenants in Chief for their lands to the de Lacys, Earls of Lincoln. In 1301 William was a party to the marriage contract of his son Henry to Cecily de Thornhill, whereby he entailed his lands in Methley to them. Henry died young, and his widow may have married his brother John, who certainly held Thornhill later on. John had three
Sons Adam, Nicholas and John. Adam son and heir of the lands of his father had two sons Thomas and John and they were minors when Adam died in 1369.
