He Breckinridge County, Kentucky birth records show his wife's name as Annie F., and son Charles born in 1878, not 1879 as recorded by others. Marriage records show James as 28 and Frances as 22, at the time of marriage. The bond was signed 3-13-1875, by James (his mark) with William Pool as surety. Appears in Breckinridge County, Kentucky during the 1880 census. At this time he is shown aged 32, Frances age 21 and son Charles, age 1. Amanda does not appear on the census but reportedly did not die until 1948.

     James Barton MATTINGLY with brothers Richard and Barnet, were known as the Long Lick Mattinglys having all settled in that area of Breckinridge Co.

     Jane MATTINGLY was born in 1760 at St Mary's County, Maryland. As of 19 November 1788,her married name was Russell. She married Charles Russell on 19 November 1788 at St Mary's County, MD. She died in 1844 at Washington County, KY.

     Jane Mattingly was born between 1817 and 1825.

     Jane E Mattingly was born circa 1792 at Washington, KY.

     Jesse E. MATTINGLY was born circa 1871 at Breckinridge, KY.

     John Mattingly was born on 16 June 1795 at Marion Co, KY.

     Note:
A sister-in-law was Elizabeth Greenock. May have been the wife of his brother, Thomas. John did not name all his children in his will but after his death, his wife re-married to Peter Johnson and Peter's will named his "children in-law" and said they were to be paid the estate left them by their father, John Mattingly. According to Pat Place, Grace married Peter 3rd, between 1744 and 1745. At least one source states that John was married once prior to Grace but I've found nothing to substantiate that. Some researchers believe Grace Brewer was not the mother of John's children, while others believe she was the mother to some. There are conflicting reports which describe two Grace Brewer's and each marrying a John Mattingly. I've found nothing to suggest there were two such John Mattingly's at the time and must state that nothing has gone past me to prove or disprove this couple as the parents of the children shown. Consequently, until such time as something more substantial than opinion is presented, I intend to maintain the parentage as shown.

     John MATTINGLY John and Sarah's marriage is the first recorded by a minister of religion in Breckinridge County. Married by Roman Catholic Priest Stephen Theodore Badin. The family appears on the 1810 Breckinridge County census with their three eldest children at the time (last name spelled Mattenly). They are on page 65 of the 1840 census for Breckinridge County and appear on the 1850 census for Breckinridge County, Ky. He age 69 and she 62.

     John "Pippy" Mattingly eldest son of Leonard Sr. He was Catholic. He was a carpenter by trade; Farmer and Distiller. He was born in 1762 at St. Marys Co., MD. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Fenwick, daughter of Unknown Fenwick, on 7 January 1788 at St Mary's County, MD. He married Peggy Montgomery, daughter of Joseph Montgomery, on 29 April 1797 at KY. He died in 1811 at Washington Co., KY. He was buried in 1811 at St Charles Cemetery, St. Mary's, KY.

     JOHN A. (Roie?) MATTINGLY was a carpenter by trade; a farmer. He was born on 9 April 1870 at Breckinridge Co., KY. He married ANNIE POOL on 25 September 1893 at BRECK. CO. He died on 18 December 1934 at Breck. Co. at age 64.

     John Alford MATTINGLY was born on 16 January 1817.

     John Amos MATTINGLY was born on 4 June 1793 at Washington Co., KY. He died on 29 October 1832 at Washington Co., KY, at age 39.

     John Baptist MATTINGLY was born in 1713.

     John Baptist MATTINGLY married Ann Spaulding. He married Elizabeth Unknown. He was born in 1736 at St Mary's Co., MD. He died in 1817 at Washington Co, KY.

     John Baptist MATTINGLY married Elizabeth Brewer. He was born in 1715 at MD. He died on 3 April 1759 at MD.

     John C. Mattingly One very reliable source says that John was married to Sarah Marceline Mattingly b.27 Mar 1860 d. Jan 1947 Breckinridge Co KY. Father Wm Jefferson Mattingly and mother Cecelia Mattingly were both from the Cezar Mattingly line. He married Julia Goehagan. He was born in 1860 at Martin Co., IN.

     John Merlin MATTINGLY was born on 17 August 1903 at Breckinridge Co., KY.

     John R. MATTINGLY IN 1880 PLANTAR HALL CENSUS. He married MARY (E. or M.) "Fanny" Vowles (b. ca 1824). He was born on 25 December 1820. He died on 29 June 1900 at age 79.

     John R. MATTINGLY Appears on census of 1850 with three children and adults: Alusha (age 45) and Frank Hardin (age 23). It is assumed that this is Mary's mother and brother. The census of 1880 identifies three additional children and an orphan named Amanda Pryor. At age 23, Amanda married Charles Mattingly. Permission slip was signed by his mother, Francis McClellan (had been Frances Fraize, married to James Mattingly, John's son). A bit of confusion present in that descendants report the daughter Winifred as born in 1844, but she appears on the census of 1860 in Hardinsburg, Breckinridge County, Kentucky named as Winney and only seven years of age. I suspect she was simply younger than previously believed. Also living in the home during 1860 were John's parents John Mattingly 86 and Sarah Wheatley 81. There was also a Jane Babbitt 17, and Charles Babbitt 15.
