     Polly Mattingly was buried at St Charles Cemetery, Marion Co, KY. Her married name was Payne. She was born circa 1790. She married Basil Payne on 11 May 1821.

     Richard MATTINGLY Jr. Believed to be the son of Richard, Sr. and the same Richard, Jr. appearing in Maryland Tax records with Richard, Sr. in 1783. Also believed to be a brother to Barnett, James Barton and Joseph Mattingly. This is not proven at this time, however, the wives of both Joseph and Richard have been proven to have been sister's. Richard's father-in-law, Vachel Hinton, is also recorded on the Washington County Tax records of 1782 and 1783. The offspring of Richard, Jr., as recorded in his will, do not agree with reports by the Catholic Priest's, Herman Mattingly or Ben Webb. The Will is considered correct. At least one genealogist believes Richard to have been born in 1750 and the son of Thomas (1830) and descended from Thomas, II (In Virginia during the late 1700's there was a Richard in Pittsylvania County and other locations. In 1797 this Richard was still in Virginia and had four males in his home. By that year Richard, Jr. had been in Kentucky since about 1790 and had nine children already, six of them sons). Rev. Webb tries to link him with William (of Leonard, William & Luke). This William was but 15 years of age at the time Richard was born. More need not be said. The evidence linking him to Richard of 1720, and a descendant of Cezar is stronger at this time but we remain prepared to change his lineage in event of evidence to the contrary. During the census of 1795, Richard was living in Washington County, Kentucky. On the census of 1810 he appears with most of his children still at home. There were two females on the age of ten who have not yet been identified but were not likely his children.

In the name of God, amen. Being infirm as to body but sound understanding and desirous of arranging my temporal affairs before God & man, I think just and right. I here declare this to be my last will and testament. I wish after my death an inventory to be made of all the goods I may have as possessions, and I wish my wife, Ellender, to have the use and benefit of all property during her life and after her death, an equitable division to be made of them in such manner that those only of my children for whom I have yet given nothing should claim as herein my present property (Viz) Elizabeth Finch, Nancy Finch, Sary Lewis, Lewis Mattingly & Thomas Mattingly & George Mattingly. For these I acknowledge I have as yet done little or nothing. I also adopt these my two grandchildren, Sarah and Mary Ann, daughters of Wm. Mattingly in the number of my present life and I make the two equal to one of my own children and leave their father, Wm. Mattingly, one dollar. I think I have already done for the rest of my children all that I can possibly do. It is not in my power at present to make a more equatible distribution. Therefore I hope that John Mattingly, Margaret Rhodes, Mary Clark, Zachariah Mattingly & Edward Mattingly will acknowledge that I have done a fathers part by them already, but if John Mattingly should not think so, I leave him one dollar. This is the arrangement which I wish to take place after my death and I wish my son George, to be my Executor & to be kind and affectionate to his mother. This concluded in the year of our Lord, 1833, January 2nd day.

This Richard was married 3 times, so records are 4+ confusing. We are descendants from two of Richard Mattingly's children, Joseph & James. He married Ann Spaulding at MD. He was born in 1720 at MD. He died in 1783 at Breckinridge, KY. He was on the 1783 Tax list for the Cumberland Hundred of Washington Co. MD. in 1783.
